About Tri

Tri Ta is a father, husband, and current Assemblyman representing California’s 70th Assembly District.

Tri Ta’s American Dream started when, seeking political freedom, his family immigrated to the United States from Saigon, Vietnam. Within just a couple of years of arriving here, with hard work and determination, Tri graduated from Cal State Los Angeles.

Tri believes in the United States’ mission of uplifting the individual by expanding freedom and opportunity. He chose a career path that would help individuals do just that: employment counselor. In this role, he helped people find jobs and connected them with vocational training. Beyond employment, Tri helped his clients find shelter, housing, childcare, and transportation. Encouraged by the community around him, Tri found a new calling. He ran for and won his first term on the Westminster City Council in 2006. Two years later, he was selected to serve as the Mayor Pro Tem. In 2012, Tri Ta made history and became the first Vietnamese-American elected mayor in the United States.

Tri’s mindset has always been on public service and giving back to his community. California and the United States have given Tri so much, he believes it’s only right that in return he does his best to make them better for everyone. Tri is principled. He believes in fairness. He will always stand up for the small business owners and their employees that are the heart of our community..

Tri is disciplined in how he governs. He is fiscally conservative and believes that when there is a budget surplus, the government shouldn’t simply go on a spending spree, but give part of it back to taxpayers, and put part of it in the reserves for a rainy day. He is opposed to defunding the police because he knows that a safe community attracts businesses, new residents, and tourism. Tri also understands that it’s becoming harder and harder to live a middle-class life in California. As such, he supports a middle-class tax cut and the reduction of unfair and costly regulations that make housing unaffordable.

Tri’s life is an example of what the liberty of the United States can do to impact lives. He wants to make sure every American has these same opportunities… a fair shot… a level playing field. With your help, Tri is excited to continue to serve the people of Orange County, and California in the State Assembly.
